Arizona is best known for the Grand Canyon, the most visited vacation spot in the United States. Other than that, Arizona is a wildly diverse place that is known for an immense number of things including the hoover dam. From the home of the bolo-tie to discovering the planet Pluto, these are not exactly the reasons why people relocate or purchase their second home in Arizona. There are some very distinct reasons why Arizona is a popular second home location for Americans and Canadians alike.

Phoenix is a charming city with a robust population of more than 1.6 million people and is part Sun Valley of the Salt River Valley. Phoenix is the economic and cultural hub of not only Sun Valley but Arizona. It is surrounded by low ranges of mountains such as McDowell, White Tank, and Superstition.

Because of its natural beauty and diverse landscape, Phoenix offers many opportunities for outdoor activities from bouldering to mountain biking. One of the most drawing factors of Phoenix is the copious amount of golf courses. Close to 200 in fact.

Phoenix, as with many other parts of Arizona the location appeals to many snowbirds for its stunning winter season. Approximately 20% of buyers purchase a property as a vacation home or for pre-retirement in the coming 4-7 years.

The downtown area of Scottsdale is so beautiful that it is often described as a softer version of South Beach, Miami with fun locations for evening entertainment. Scottsdale borders 3 million acres of the Tonto National Forest, a rugged and spectacularly beautiful landscape, ranging from Saguaro cactus-studded desert to pine-forested mountains.

Scottsdale also has its own fair share of 50+ golf courses including well-manicured recreational parks for families to enjoy. There is a private airport in Scottsdale but no commercial airport. Don’t be too concerned because it has incredibly easy access with direct flights through Phoenix approximately 20 minutes from Scottsdale. This is a big reason why Scottsdale is attractive for second homeowners from colder winter climates.

Sedona is a beautiful desert city in Arizona to own a second home or vacation property. It is located near Flagstaff which is surrounded by pine forests, steep canyons, and red rock buttes. Red rock formations create a vivid and mesmerizing setting that changes hourly with the light. People come here both around sunrise and sunset to see this magical phenomenon.

People who are fond of outdoor activities come around these formations to indulge in hiking and mountain biking on the 300 miles of trails. Just north of Sedona is a variety of incredible slot canyons too. Not sure what they are? Google a picture, as words cannot describe their stunning beauty.

Sedona has a fantastic wine trail through the Verde Valley and Cottonwood which is ideally located above the heat of the high desert, and below the high country cold. Sedona organizes many events year round including Sedona Film Festival and Sedona Marathon. With a combination of year-round activities and events, Sedona is a great place to own your second home.

Tucson is a beautiful city in Arizona housing the University of Arizona and lies near both capital Phoenix as well as the Mexican border. Tucson is situated on a plain area inside Sonora Desert. It is surrounded by low ranges of 5 different mountains.

This stunning and diverse landscape of Tucson means you have many opportunities to indulge in exciting outdoor activities. Because of its resorts and attractions, Tucson attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists every year which can make it an appealing opportunity to own a second home with short-term vacation rentals in mind.

Believe it, there are actually skiing in Arizona too. Mt. Lemmon is the southernmost ski area in the United States. There are a couple of others too a few hours from Phoenix called Arizona Snowbowl and Sunrise Park. With a variety of things near the city of Tucson, this can make a very appealing opportunity to own a second home with short-term rentals in mind

Tucson is a major cultural hub of Arizona. You will find that there is rarely a dull moment in Tucson with so many cultural events and fairs, including 120 parks for the fun and recreation of the entire family. And here’s an obscure tidbit, Tucson Gem and Mineral Show is the world’s most significant event in gems and minerals.
